CAREER ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMITTEES

I am interested in the following committee(s): EXECUTIVE: The Executive “committee” is made up of the Council Chairman, Council Vice Chairman, Council Treasurer, Council Recorder, Council Business/School Liaison, and the Chairs and Assistant Chairs of each Committee. They are the driving force that directs the efforts of the Council and its members. (Est. time commitment: 3-4 hrs./month) CURRICULUM: The Curriculum Committee assists with providing guest speakers for various events and programs. They are committed to connecting the workplace to the classrooms by bringing in businessmen and women from various CTAE-related industries to better prepare students for life after high school. (Est. time commitment: 1-2 hrs./month) FUNDRAISING: The Fundraising Committee is responsible for the Council’s signature event, TechFest, which occurs in the spring every year. They orchestrate all aspects involved with the event and are assisted by each of the other committees when possible. (Est. time commitment: 1-2 hrs./month) JOB SHADOWING/INTERNSHIP: The Job Shadowing / Internship Committee plans, organizes, and executes field trips for Juniors to various companies during the school year, giving students more of a glimpse into the technology workplace. During the second semester of the school year, they organize the various aspects necessary for CTAE students to apply to, and accept, internships for the summer with companies in various industries. (Est. time commitment: 1-2 hrs./month) MARKETING/MEMBERSHIP: The Marketing / Membership Committee is responsible for the website and other marketing materials used by the Council and its members. They also handle expanding membership to ensure the continued growth and success of the Council. (Est. time commitment: 1-2 hrs./month) SCHOLARSHIPS: The Scholarships Committee is responsible for all aspects related to the scholarships and grants that we give out each year. They handle the entire process, from application creation to choosing the best recipient. (Est. time commitment: 1-2 hrs./month)

BUSINESS PARTNER OPPORTUNITIES

Additional opportunities to support Pasco County Schools' CTAE programs, teachers and students. Please indicate those in which you are interested in participating.
TECHFEST: A signature Career Advisory Council event for our business community to network with our students and faculty. This is a great opportunity for all stakeholders to come together to share career/college information. It’s your turn to showcase the “WOW” within your organization. CURRICULUM SUPPORT: Business partners are welcome to work with our classroom instructors and students to provide academic support. Our goal is to develop “real world” experiences that will demonstrate the relevance of our curriculum. Our partners share industry knowledge to provide information on career awareness and opportunities in the workplace. MENTORING PROGRAM: Mentors meet one-on-one with students during the school year and act as supportive listeners, role models and personal coaches. They provide guidance, career exploration, academic assistance and advice on personal development. Mentors are screened and trained in a two-hour workshop and make a one-year commitment to a student. GUEST SPEAKERS: Speakers are invited to share industry knowledge and expertise by providing information related to their respective fields. Would you be willing to act as a resource for our teachers and students? One event that we recruit speakers for is Great American Teach-In each fall. SPONSORSHIPS: Local businesses are asked to sponsor student-oriented activities by providing in-kind donations or financial support. Sponsorships are always welcome to support our academic clubs in competitive events at regional, state and national levels which provide opportunities for students to compete, collaborate, network, and travel. BUSINESS SPONSORED WORKSHOPS: Workshops allow industry and education to work collaboratively toward common goals by providing an opportunity to share corporate philosophy and corporate culture. Workshops provide technical training for students and staff. FIELD TRIPS: As students research careers, field trips make the classroom experience come alive and offer students the opportunity to network and explore various workplace environments and expectations. Additional field trip hosts are always needed. JOB SHADOWING & INTERNSHIPS: Students participate with local businesses in job shadowing experiences during their junior year and paid internships in their senior year. Consider hosting a job shadowing experience and offer a paid internship position to a student.
PROGRAM ADVISORY BOARDS

These advisory boards will meet once per semester with school career specialists and teachers from each career cluster. Industry partners will share their expertise of their fields, including current information relating to advances and needs, and provide guidance and input on curriculum to develop an innovative workforce.
